Remember I mentioned there was another version of our group photo-op with David Hewlett at Chevron 7.4? Well here it is :P

Chevron 7.4 con report

Finally finished uploading pics! So here is my report
Walking into the hotel was very sureal, there were other events on on the friday and everybody seemed to be wearing a Tux or a coctail dress! I never felt so underdressed :P

Anyway, we settled in and went to the opening ceremony, first up was Bambam, who was being very chatty. Then Suanne came on and Bambam was very chatty with her, which prompted someone from the wing to shout 'There are other guests back here!', I looked over and who is stood in the doorway but David Hewlett! The other guests eventually came on and the main thing I noticed was how thin David Hewlett was looking, very trim and toned, he looked good!

We turned up quite late to the party as we'd eaten after the opening ceremony, the hotel food was very expensive so the only thing we could do was order a Domino's takeaway! At the party they had a snowboard simulator thingy (so discriptive :P), and shortly after we arrived so did Ryan Robbins, Brian J Smith and Sharon Taylor! Ryan jumped straight on the snowboard :P Onto piccies :D

After Ryan, Brian had a go, Tie tied around head and all! I had a rather unfortunate viewing position (it's not my fault he never turned around :P)

Onto Sharon's turn! (I have no idea who stayed on the longest :P)

Ryan needed another go after that :P And he landed right in front of me!

After a bit more partying, which the guests joined in on the dancefloor with, Brian was there all night! We had a go on the Snowboard our selves :P

The next morning, Saturday, was a free for all of photo-ops and autographs.

Due to San being ill :( We had extra photo-ops, nobody else wanted an extra one with Brian so I had it! Have to say I didn’t mind one bit when the photographer said I had beautiful eyes while I was stood next to Brian :P I had little chat with Sharon when getting my autograph as her middle name and her mum’s name is Carolyn! Both Brian and David loved Hannah’s drawings of them :D (no crying this time though :P)

We decided to get a group photo with David, so we asked the hotel if we could have 7 lemons… :P They gave us them no problem! The photographer took lots of different versions of the pic, including a final jazz hands one! :P I think either Fi or Hannah has that so when I get my hands on it I’ll post it.

Edit: I don't know why they aren't upright!

Next up was Ryan and Sharon’s talk. They work together on Riese (the web series) so had good banter, I think I’ll probably check the series out :) Ryan talked about Santuary too, and how Amanda was a real leader. They talked about their first experiences on Atlantis, Ryan said how happy he was that Martin Wood decided on a whim not to kill him off during The Storm/The Eye. Ladon was initially supposed to be the Genii’s version of McKay, so when they told him he was now the leader of his people, he had to rethink things :P Sharon said she played Amelia as though she was really grateful to be there and just wanted to do her job, which wasn’t hard as that’s exactly what she as an actress was doing!

I then bid on Sharon’s guest encounter and got in! I surprised myself by actually chatting a fair amount :P She talked a lot about Riese and how its her first real opportunity to grow a character herself. She also talked about filming Smallville and how lovely Tom Welling is, he surprised her by wanting to go over his lines with her! She was really disappointed that SGA didn’t get a season 6, as they planed to go ahead with Amelia/Ronon. It was actually Jason’s idea, after they filmed the scene in the Prodigal Jason went to the producers and said that was the kind of girl Ronon wanted, so they did. She knows that there was some back reaction to Amelia being in the final scene, and thinks it looked a bit odd herself, but the writers put it in to give Ronon some closure, a happy ending. There was another scene that explained it better, but it got cut. Of course after the happy ending comment, there was talk in the group that Sheppard was still left on his own! She said how nice everyone had been to her at the con, that she’d heard cons in the US could get a bit awkward, her mother in law was concerned for her! But she could report back that everyone was lovely :)

Now the most interesting bit! She talked about how on some shows, if they’ve been on a while the writers just aren’t as bothered anymore, and don’t care as much about developing thing/concluding things. Yes, I got the distinct impression she was talking about SGA.

This is turning out much longer than I’d intended, lol!

David’s talk :D He talked a lot about his sister, and how she embarrassed him on set :P But he’s proud of her, he’s been encouraging her to write and she’s just won an award! The hair is a bit crazy in the pics because when he came on and said ‘as some of you may know I was on a small show called Stargate Atlantis’, someone shouted ‘Never heard of it’ so David deadpanned ‘I’m sorry, is this the twilight convention?’ and ruffled his hair before adding ‘but I don’t freaking sparkle’, lol.

After that was a group talk, which was so, so funny! But I can’t remember why :P Edit: I remember! They talked about what they’d done before acting, which lead to everyone, including the other guests finding out that Ryan had ran away to Australia and joined the circus!!! And much Michael was taken when Bambam said he’d run a hairdressers! And Sharon starting talking about the plane flight over, that Bambam and Ryan had also been on. Bambam and Ryan just started shouting ‘Captain Kirk!’ as the planes Captain had indeed been called Captain Kirk, and they talked about who would tell the audience first :P

Party time! Ryan and Sharon came again, and had a go at the bungy/race thingy! As did we, I beat Laura 5-0 woo! :P

The next day was a stunt show with Bambam and Sharon. (and I’ve just remembered what happened in the group talk! Goes back to edit) They did the scene from Seige Part 2 where Bambam played an Athosian. Then Bambam brought on a couple of British stunt guys and said they could do with someone else, maybe someone who’d been in the circus, so the whole crowd started chanting ‘Ryan, ryan, ryan…’. And he was so adorable up there! He kept pouting that the stunt guys would hurt him :P Hopefully somebody video’d it and puts it on Youtube as the final routine was awesome!

Laura and I then bid on Ryan’s guest encounted, we were in the top 10 15mins before it closed, when we went in for David’s talk, unfortunately when it had finished, we weren’t.

So, David’s talk :P He talked about Jason doing Conan and how happy he was for him. Someone asked if he knew what Joe and Rachel were doing, he said he’d spoken to Joe the other day but wasn’t sure what he was up too, and he is supposed to be starring in something Rachel has written, but doesn’t know when yet. He said Rachel had come to him early on in Atlantis with some prose she’d written and he’d encouraged her to write more as it was beautiful! He was asked to sign the chair as it had been auctioned off, so he asked the person who won where he’d like it signing. The person responded ‘Sheffield’, David did and double take and said ‘You’re quick in the UK’ :P (I resisted from shouting ‘Up the Blades’ :P)

So then we had to go to Brian’s talk (which Ryan’s guest encounter would have been over :P). Have to say, Brian does seem like a genuinely nice guy, who’s very excitable :P He talked a bit about SGU, but I can’t remember what :P Except one bit, someone asked if he had any story ideas for his character, and he said he didn’t. He said he’s not the kind of actor always up in the producers office with ideas and suggestions (sound like anyone else we know? *cough* JF), that he just works with what the writers give him, that way he’s not disappointed if they don’t do something he’d hoped for. I can see his reasoning behind that, but I do always remember Joe talking about owning your character, knowing it better than anyone else, even telling the writers that their character wouldn’t say that, I think that way creates a much more 3 dimensional character, as the actor can put different layer into their performance. No wonder tptb don’t like Joe!

Then Ryan’s talk! Ryan is awesome! That is all.

No, it’s not :P He was telling us about this nude scene he’d filmed, where he had to run butt naked through a golf course, he never heard them say cut so just kept on going. I can’t quite remember how it ended but something to do with a golf cart, the golfing green and a man with his young son! :P

Then the final group talk. One of the questions asked about their ideal car, to which Brian started talking about how he always uses public transport, then he decided that he’d actually like a golf cart!! Of course this had Ryan and the audience in complete hysterics with the rest of the guests thinking we were just laughing at Brian’s lame choice of car! :P I can’t remember how this came about but at some point Ryan tried to through himself through the Stargate on the back wall. :P

And then it was over, boooo. And I’m forgetting half of the cool stuff, but then I didn’t think I could remember any of it when I started writing!

Harry Brown. (no spoilers)

I didn't know much about the film apart from seeing posters around saying it was the best British film of the year and that Michael Caine was in it.

Michael Caine being in was the crucial part to me, not because I'm a particularly big fan of his (although I do think he is a very good actor these days), but because it rang a bell with me. About a year ago I went to a lecture by a screenwriter, it was the best lecture I've ever been too, informative, interesting and amusing. The gentleman mentioned that he'd just been on set of a film from a script he'd written and that Michael Caine was in it. Harry Brown is said film.

The start of the film is very British, I was rolling my eyes at the number of traps it fell into. But from about 15 mins in onwards, it is absolutely superb! Beautiful cinematography, great direction, understated yet excellent acting and a brilliant script! Having met the man that didn't suprise me at all!
